Blog Post: Construction Admin and a Side of BBQ – by Melissa Richards, CPSM

Each of our projects begins with a collaborative design process between our internal design teams and our clients. Once our designs have been approved, it’s time to begin construction. Providing construction administration for our projects allows us to make certain our designs come to fruition as we intended and are constructed correctly.

Being based in North Carolina, construction can occur throughout the year, but the spring and summer sees an increase in our construction administration staff’s workload. We spend a lot of time saying hello and goodbye to our CA staff as they race out to their next site visit. Having worked in more than 50 counties across the state has allowed us to venture to the coast, to the mountains, to the Sandhills, the Triad, and throughout the Triangle. Along the way our CA staff like to enjoy the local cuisine (especially NC BBQ!) to get a taste of their surroundings. Some of their favorites include:

Adam’s Roadside Bar-B-Q – Smithfield, NC

Bar-B-Q Center – Lexington, NC

B’s Barbeque – Greenville, NC

Jackson’s Big Oak Barbeque – Wilmington, NC

Lexington BBQ – Lexington, NC

Mission BBQ – Wilmington, NC

Parker’s BBQ – Greenville, NC

Redneck BBQ Lab – McGee’s Crossroads, NC

Visiting job sites allows our CA staff to oversee our projects as they emerge from a design plan on paper to a vertical structure surrounded by various landscape architecture and civil engineering elements. Construction administration plays such a key role in our projects from the first pre-construction meeting, to the closeout phase, and final record drawing submittal. Every day we are appreciative of the long drives our CA staff endure or job site walks on those hot North Carolina summer days. We are happy they can enjoy some delicious NC BBQ, banana splits, and red slaw along the way!
