We celebrated the Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Fort Fisher State Historic Site Visitor Center and Underwater Archaeology Lab! CLH has been providing landscape architectural design services as a member of the Clark Nexsen and Bordeaux Construction design and construction team. The project included the demolition of the existing facility and construction of a new 22,000 square foot Visitor Center and a 7,300 square foot Underwater Archaeology Lab. In addition to the new buildings, the project includes the expansion of the existing parking lot and several historic interpretive exhibits. Three Civil War era earthwork mounds that were demolished during the construction of the World War II runway were included in the reconstruction. Integrated into the earthworks include a sallyport, lunette, and cannon emplacement exhibits. The site and architecture will act as a teaching tool for telling the many stories of Fort Fisher’s significant history. We really enjoyed bringing this history to life!
