Strategically located to serve as a cornerstone for its growing neighborhood and community, the Wake County Fuquay-Varina Community Library site design integrates functionality, long-term resilience, and a strong sense of place. CLH’s civil engineers and landscape architects worked collaboratively to shape a cohesive site design that balances infrastructure performance with environmental stewardship and user experience.
The CLH team developed site grading, storm drainage, and utility systems to support the library’s current operations and accommodate future expansion into a regional facility. In addition, the landscape architects integrated native and adaptive plantings that enhance ecological function, reduce maintenance needs, and visually connect the library to its natural context. The team designed a creative stormwater treatment area that not only manages runoff, but also serves as an educational and aesthetic feature within the landscape.
Pedestrian safety and accessibility were central to the site’s layout, with thoughtfully designed circulation patterns guiding visitors through the grounds and across the stormwater feature in a safe and engaging manner. Located just 1.5 miles from the town’s busy downtown district, the library stands as both a civic landmark and a model of integrated, sustainable site design supporting Fuquay-Varina’s continued growth.
