Selma Burke Middle School

Selma Burke Middle School

CLH provided landscape architecture design and civil engineering services for the Selma Burke Middle School project. We worked collaboratively to design a school space inspired by Harlem Renaissance sculptor and the school’s namesake, Selma Burke who was born in Mooresville, North Carolina. Designed to serve 900 students, the school offers state-of-the-art classrooms that integrate STEM and the arts.

A dynamic color palette, unique graphics, and adaptable furnishings cultivate a culture of creativity, inspiring students to explore, innovate, and leave their mark on the world. The outdoor courtyard space provides an area for outdoor classroom sessions as well as provides students with a space to engage with nature and collaborate. Another aspect of the site design includes an athletic complex to the south which features a football field and track, baseball field, softball field, and tennis courts.
