CLH provided landscape architecture design services for the Fort Fisher State Historic Site project.
The project included the demolition of the existing facility and construction of a new 22,000 square foot Visitor Center Building and a 7,300 square foot Underwater Archaeology Lab.
In addition to the new buildings, the project included the expansion of the existing parking lot and several historic interpretive exhibits. Three Civil War era earthwork mounds that were demolished during the construction of the World War II runway are included in the reconstruction. Integrated into the earthworks will be a sallyport, lunette and cannon emplacement exhibits.
The site and architecture will act as a teaching tool for telling the many stories of Fort Fisher’s significant history.
