CLH worked closely with exhibit designers at North Carolina Zoo to provide landscape architeture design and civil engineering services for the design and construction of a universally accessible, ¾ acre natural playground which features an artificial flowing stream with a wheelchair-accessible splash table and small waterfalls, an 1,100-square foot standing stone labyrinth, a 650-square foot covered sandy fossil dig area with a wheelchair-accessible sand table and other fun activity stations for children ages 2 – 10. The accessible stream feature allows plenty of room for jumping and splashing. A “Mud Café” is a fun feature where kids can assemble messy play meals for their families and friends. The Treetop Trails provide a great vantage point for viewing the park. Design development and construction implementation for this zoo park playground was a highly collaborative process between the NC Zoo and CLH.
